SAC Health Talk Series

With the sponsorships of Gilead Science and GlaxoSmithKline plc, SAC Center held a health talk with the theme of "Management of Drug Side Effects and Antiretroviral Resistance" on April 13. We were honored to have Dr. Daphne Lau from Prince Margaret Hospital as a guest speaker, who explained the types of medication used in HIV/AIDS treatment, such as triple therapy, dual therapy, and long-acting injectables, along with their respective side effects. Additionally, Dr. Lau discussed the risks of drug resistance and the importance of medication adherence for individuals living with the infection.

SAC Health Talk Series 2024

With the sponsorships of Gilead Science and GlaxoSmithKline plc, a health talk with the theme of "Eye Health" was held at SAC Center on March 9. We were honored to invite Professor Chen Li Jia, Guy from the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong as the guest speaker. Professor Chen explained about common clinical eye diseases, their symptoms, and treatments, including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. In addition, Professor Chen also discussed some eye diseases related to HIV/AIDS and their treatments, such as retinitis induced by cytomegalovirus or herpes zoster. Professor Chen also emphasized the importance of medication adherence in effectively controlling the virus and rebuilding the body's immune system. Quitting smoking and controlling hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes can also contribute to eye health.

With the sponsorships of Gilead Science and GlaxoSmithKline plc, a health talk with the theme of "Latest Development Directions in Treatment" was held in SAC Center on January 27. We are very honored to invite Dr. Kwok Wing-yee from the Special Prevention Program of the Department of Health as our guest speaker to share the information about the existing oral and injectable drug treatments for people living with HIV. In addition, Dr. Kwok also reminded members of the importance of medication compliance to effectively control the virus and avoid the emergence of drug resistance.
